Rev. Richard Douglas Hobbs (July 21, 1946 – September 22, 2021)

CaptureThe Reverend Richard Douglas Hobbs, age 75, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a brief illness.

“Pastor Hobbs,” as he was known to many, founded Community Bible Church in Knox County, and has continued to lead it for the last 29 years. Hobbs devoted his life to The Lord, his church, and his community. He was a loving husband and father. Born in Knoxville and raised in Farragut, Richard graduated from Farragut High school in 1964. He continued his education at the University of Tennessee. Before and during his calling as a pastor, Hobbs had several careers, including those with Delta Airlines promoted by the missions airfare, Motor Products Inc., and Horne Properties. He also previously owned Fox Road Marina and managed Concord Marina in Knoxville.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Lee “D.L.” and Christine Blair Hobbs; his first wife, Dottie Sue Marley Hobbs; his brother, Douglas Kenneth Hobbs; and his sister, Sandra Hobbs Gaskins.

He is survived by his his wife of 24 years, Phyllis Frye Hobbs; his daughters, Jennifer Hobbs of Destin, Florida, Jessica Hobbs of Asheville, North Carolina, Julia Hobbs of Knoxville, Tammy Hobbs of Atlanta, Georgia, and Tonya Hobbs of Knoxville; grandson, Xander Palatinus of Knoxville; granddaughter, Madison Letsinger of Knoxville; stepdaughters, Kathy, Lisa, and Rhonda; their children and grandchildren. He also leaves brothers, Ronald Hobbs and E.A. “Ootie” Hobbs of Knoxville; sister, Kimberly Hobbs Chadwell of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., with the Reverend Don Currin officiating. Burial will take place during a private graveside service at the Community Bible Church Cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
